SOMEONE ELSE'S TERM PROJECT PRESENTATION

I liked Shirley's presentation on facebook and its positive and negative effects. Her topic was well researched and presented. Though her topic could have gone out of the subject of the class new media, she still managed quite well it to connect it to new media. I like the video she showed in class about 30 things people hate about facebook. Also, her style of presentation was good also.

MY TERM RESEARCH PROJECT

Identity theft occurs when someone steals your name or other personal information for fraud purposes. Identity theft is considered as a crime. As per the FBI, Identity theft is one of the nation's most fastest growing crime. Most of the time Identity theft happens by using your personal data, such as your name, address, telephone number, phone card or credit card number, mother's maiden name, Social Security number, without your knowledge to commit a criminal act. Most often, your information is used to commit some form of financial fraud. For example, to buy houses, cars, or to take out loans. Identity theft leaves you with bill and this can happen with all ages and all groups of people. Victims of identity theft have to deal with lots of difficulty clearing their credit records. It takes long time to clear their name from this, and during that time their own credit ratings suffers. These people who commit the crimes sometimes act, work and even file bankruptcy on the victims name. The longer identity theft goes on, the more difficult it can be to repair it and this does not end here. A damaged history can also cause you various difficulties. You might encounter problems in obtaining new jobs, getting loans, buying houses or even renting an apartment. You can prevent or try not to get into identity theft problems by being away from transactions which you think can risk your information. Another way to avoid this crime is by safeguarding your information.
